The Capitol, north side.
The Capitol, the "back" (east) side, less famous, but more accessible than the front.
The Native American on the right looks none too happy.
A noble shot if you take out the repair zone. Flag is at half mast to honor the five victims of the Capital Gazette shooting in Annapolis MD on 6/28.
No stopping or standing. Pshaw. I did both to take this photo.
Across the street from the Capitol is the Library of Congress, completed in 1894.
Library of Congress. The lobby is lavishly, and beautifully, decorated.
Library of Congress. The lobby ceiling.
Library of Congress. One large hall was set up as a tribute to baseball.
Library of Congress. Another section contained Thomas Jefferson's library, which originally contained 6487 books (many were destroyed in a fire in 1851).
"The Ball Team" (c 1910). Bat. Check. Pipes. Check. Rifle. Check. Play ball!
Library of Congress. Elaborate ceilings in the place.
Library of Congress. Another wing was dedicated to the World Wars.
Library of Congress. The actual library: more than 38 million books and other printed materials, 3.6 million recordings, 14 million photographs, 5.5 million maps, 8.1 million pieces of sheet music and 70 million manuscripts
Library of Congress. A library card is required to enter this research area. This shot was taken from a glassed-in balcony.
